I feel like I should follow up after a post like my last one. Yes, I did write in my journal this week (very therapeutic to get some thoughts down on paper).
Then for family home evening I did a little lesson on journals. We talked about what a journal is and what kind of stuff you can write in a journal. Then I pulled out the individual journals that I have kept for the boys. Now don't go thinking I'm any kind of super mom -- there's just a few sporadic entries per year. So I flipped through and shared a couple stories with the boys that were all about them. I couldn't believe how excited, shocked, and just plain tickled the boys were (especially Conner), that I had recorded stories about them. If that didn't add fuel to my journaling/scrapbooking fire I don't know what else can.
Then I explained that they can start keeping journals of their own. I explained how we would do it (see the story in my previous post about a general authority at my parent's stake conference). Then we sat around the computer and I let the boys pick out a picture to customize their very own journals. They keep asking, "how many days until our journals get here?" And Conner has an ever growing list of all the things he wants to write in his journal -- his dreams, when he's going to become a superhero, how he was such a good boy yesterday, etc.
It's been pretty fun. I just hope we can keep it up. I'll let you know how the first journaling goes with the boys -- just waiting for the books to arrive.
another update: The last couple days I've been working on copying & pasting my past blog entries into a word document so that I could include them in my journal. Today I printed it all up . . . 35 pages! So now I don't feel so bad for falling behind in my journaling for the last year!
