Last month Conner began learning Fur Elise by Beethoven in his piano lessons. It's one of those songs that is a rite of passage, of sorts, for every piano student.
I remember when I was about his age and also learned Fur Elise. It was 1987 or 1988. I was going to be playing it in a recital soon. One night my family and I were all sitting around watching TV when this McDonald's commercial came on.
Ahh! What a weird coincidence? Not only was I preparing to play this song in a recital, but I also had a dumb brother . . . or 3. (At least that's what I thought at the time. Now that has all changed.) Even the big hair and dress for the recital . . . that's me. I should dig up a picture somewhere. The only difference? No trip to McDonald's for me. The nearest one was 30 miles away. Instead, I'm sure we had root beer floats at home.
April's Cub Scout Pack Meeting was a talent show and I convinced Conner that he should play Fur Elise. He finally agreed, which is a very good thing, because his original plan was to do a clown show with Payton. Picture two boys running around aimlessly, crashing into each other, laughing hysterically, with underwear on their heads. Yep, had to veto that one.
Here is Conner at the piano . . .
