fire
This week my dad has been working on a fire that is pretty close to home. My mom recently shared some pictures and video of him on location. The flames are impressive and so close! The video is great -- especially the few seconds where I can hear my dad whistling. That's just something he always does, but a little comical when you consider the scene surrounding him. This is his second summer working on the fires with his bulldozer and we've been begging for pictures. Wish granted.
The fire is 20 miles away from their home and my mom said that one evening she could even see the flames in the distance. But for the most part they are only threatened with smoky skies, making it uncomfortable to be outside.
earthquake
Scott traveled to L.A. on Tuesday & Wednesday for a real quick business trip. He was in town for the 5.4 earthquake, but he didn't feel it -- he was driving on the free-way at the time.
I still remember the San Francisco earthquake of 1989. Even though we lived 100 miles away and there was no real damage to my area other than the power going out, I have clear memories of that day. I was playing in the front yard of our neighbor's house with my friends and suddenly the ground began to sway beneath us. It was a really strange sensation. And when it kept going and going Sam (age 7) even jumped up to his feet and began "surfing" the waves. That image still makes me laugh.
