backpacks, new shoes, chocolate pudding in the lunches, hair combed just right, new morning routines . . . . it's that time of year again . . . .
and we couldn't be more ready!
Conner is in 3rd grade and Payton is in 1st. Wow, both boys in school ALL day long. Monday was definitely a quiet day. Just Anna and I at home. We ran errands, cleaned the bathrooms, had lots of little conversations, went for a bike ride . . . definitely different, but delightful.
The first two days of school have gone well so far. It has felt like a pretty seamless transition - familiar faces, familiar routines, familiar curriculum. Not too much is different so far.
Payton was excited to have his classroom inside the main building. In fact, the boys' classrooms are right next door to each other. On the first day they spied each other across the playground (Payton's class leaving, Conner's class coming) and they both silently did a two-fingered "I'm watching you" point back & forth. Glad to know they're keeping an eye out for one another.
Conner's favorite part of the day: P.E.
First day blunder: at lunch, throwing away the gladware I packed pudding in after I specifically told them not to throw it away. He did not get to bring pudding today.
Things to look forward to this year: building a model of one of the planets
Payton's favorite part of the day: having 3 recesses. (Although, if you ask him he'll say "going to the bathroom". Why? I don't know.)
First day success: Not getting his card pulled (a behavior/discipline method). Both days he has made sure to tell me he did not get his card pulled. I can tell that in his mind, this will be the measure of a good or bad day. And I can tell that he's going to make sure to tell me everyday who DID get their card pulled.
