I have a general rule in blogging that if a week has passed and I haven't blogged about it, it ain't going to see the light of the internet. Blogging is one of my happy places so I definitely do not want to turn this into yet another item where I feel behind.
But, as the summer is winding down . . . . tomorrow is our last day of summer vacation (I know, crazy, they don't start classes until next week) . . . . I feel like sharing just a couple of things that you didn't see this summer. Believe it or not, I don't blog about everything we do. :)
Here are a few in random order:
The coast
It was sunny! It was beautiful! Just a wonderful day. First we hit up the Tillamook Cheese Factory as soon as it opened.
Then to the lighthouse at Cape Meares.
And finally a beach in Oceanside. We flew kites, the kids played in the water, got sand in our crevices, and life was good.
I just love this cutie. She kept herself busy digging in the sand, running back & forth to check on the boys at the water's edge, and getting right in there with the kite flying.
okay, that was the big one. Now onto the others.
construction of the Death Star Legos
Remember when Scott got these legos for his birthday? While I was at girl's camp Papa Dennis & Grammer Valerie came to visit/help with the kids and they busted out the legos. It took 2 weeks to fully assemble, with much of the work being done by the boys on their own. See the instruction book by Payton? Yep, it's that thick. And spiral bound. This, my friends, is serious business.
4th of July fun
First there was the fun of decorating bikes with red white & blue streamers, balloons, flags, etc. But it started to get too hot outside, so it wasn't as fun as I hoped it would be.
And then the fun of company for BBQ and fireworks. The kids were so funny, running back and forth across the lawn as a group, screaming/laughing about the bee on someone's uneaten hamburger. Simple joys, I guess.
Primary Activity
Big Birthday Bash: Serving Cake and Others! We celebrated the Primary's birthday, President Monson's birthday, and found ways to serve (per President Monson's birthday request).
I have great counselors so this party was nothing short of wonderful. The kids had a great time. They decorated cupcakes, played a relay race, traced their hands on a poster we're sending to a Primary in Brazil (& learned a little Portuguese), learned about the first Primary and earned a prize, ate ice cream, and blew the wazoo out of their noisemakers at the end. Success!
Well that's my short list, the highlights of what I've left out.
While summer is my favorite season of the year, I do have to say I am looking forward to fall. For one, these pumpkin muffins are calling my name. Mmmm. But I have a special something coming up next week that is going to extend the summer season a little bit longer for me. So I've got a couple weeks before I can fully embrace the fall.
Candy corn, changing leaves, and pumpkins just don't go well with beaches & sunscreen.
