This was a first for me. A girls' roadtrip.
Something that I've dreamt about for a while and those dreams finally came to fruition a few months ago when plans were set in motion.
In my mind, the idea of spending 25 hours in the car across 1500 miles of freeway with three other women, accompanied by 3 nights and 4 days of kid-free living sounded like bliss. In reality . . . it was exactly that. That much time, confined in a vehicle can definitely test any relationship. I was happy to come home Sunday night and report that we still like each other very much. In fact, I'd sign up for another one of these trips any day because the time on the road just flew by.
We talked, we laughed, we shared thoughts on parenting & motherhood, we brainstormed ideas for each others' church callings, we answered silly quiz questions from a magazine, we listened to 80's music, and we didn't have to open any fruit snacks for anyone. Bliss.
We allowed time for adventures. Like . . .
- stopping at the big Harry & David store
- the photoshoot above at a Mt. Shasta scenic viewpoint
- potty breaks every 2.5 hours (or less)
- cramming into a photo booth
- and happening upon a Tea Party on April 15th
{and can I just say that the Tea Party Patriots were some of the nicest, friendliest people. Everyone was so upbeat, happy, and welcoming. A very good vibe.}
After arriving at our final destination (my parents' house) we went to work with final party preparations (the purpose for our visit - more on that in the next post). We . . .
- sliced strawberries
- filled favor cups with dirt and garnished each with a leaf made from seed paper
- tied bows on parasols
- hung the 14 teal, white ruffle, and burlap banners I made for the occasion
- folded napkins for 75
After a short rest . . .
we were served the most delicious, mouth-watering, make-you-crave-more-even-after-you-are-stuffed dinner. Cedar plank salmon, grilled pineapple (Tucano's recipe), pork chops, asparagus, asian salad.
See what I mean?
many, many thanks to dad and Sam for whipping this up.
The next morning our assignment was to set the tables for 75 (linens, centerpieces, place settings, favors).
Isn't it beautiful? I just love how calm, natural, and clean it looks.
More on the party tomorrow.
