Last month with Scott in Europe and school, we never made it out on a date.
This month I think we made up for it. Count them, 4 dates this month. Sweet!
- caught a matinee showing of Snow White and the Huntsman
- a nice dinner at Savoury's in Mariposa, CA
- we tucked the kids into bed while in Utah and went next door for Thai food
- and just last night we escaped for some good eats: Cafe Rio and frozen custard. And brought a Redbox movie home with us.
Nothing epic, crazy-creative, or original. Just time together, away from the kids. Even if it is for just one hour.
I think it's important and necessary for a marriage relationship. Gotta nurture it.
And I loved that after eating our Cafe Rio we just sat at the table and talked for 30-45 minutes, catching up on life & stuff, sharing feelings, sipping Horchata and Diet Pepsi, complimenting each other on how great he/she looks. Good marriage stuff.
This chat also served a dual purpose . . . our full bellies needed to settle for a bit so we could be ready for frozen custard.
This month has been a little rough on us, with all the sicknesses and stuff. This sickness left me pretty much useless. And when Scott is sick he gets grumpy. And when it stretches on for over 2 weeks, no matter how nice you are to each other, and helpful & accomodating . . . . it will take you off your game. After getting home from Utah last weekend we knew we needed some re-connecting to get our mojo back.
It started with making an "appointment." Do you ever do that? Sometimes when we get into a little funk & realize it's time to fix it, we make an appointment for us. It's pretty much me saying, "My head/mood isn't in it today, but let's make an appointment for tomorrow." That way I have the whole day to get my head in the right mindset, clean the house, and clear out whatever clutter (tangible or the to-do list kind) is bogging me down. I spend the day thinking happy, kind thoughts about him. Basically making sure all is well and in order at home and my head so I can feel calm, put together, and loving when he gets home.
Once the kids go to bed it's time to catch-up, talk, cuddle, have a treat, and re-connect as a couple. It always works.
It's been a really good week for us . . . I've been feeling especially grateful for him and for our kids. Like, driving to the grocery store and getting teary as I consider all my blessings kind of grateful. Life is good.
I enjoyed this video about strengthening marriages this week. Maybe you will too.

Okay now it's your turn!
Here's how it goes:
1. Go on a date with your husband. Easy, right? And post a wrap-up on your blog. This is for anyone . . . whether you put together a Year of Dates gift or not.
2. On the first of the month, come here and submit a link to your blog post. Not your blog
3. In your blog post include a text link back to me. You're also welcome to use the image below.
4. Lastly, have fun and visit each other!
