A few weeks ago I had my mom come visit so we could fit in some mother/daughter time. It's our tradition. Last year was a pretty fancy affair -- like, band-aids on a silver platter kind of fancy. This year was a little more low key. But wonderful as well.
DAY 1 - Breakfast at Bread and Butter (my favorite), exploring the Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens, some window shopping in Caesar's Emporium (Max Brenner chocolates), lunch & Frrrozen Hot Chocolates at Serendipity 3, and later a movie night at home (Les Miserables).
DAY 2 - Pedicures and chocolate chip scones from Great Harvest Bread, shopping, shopping, shopping at Town Square, and lunch at The Meatball Spot with the most amazing milkshake I've ever had.
It was such a great time.
But let me tell you about the Conservatory & Botanical Garden at the Bellagio because I just about died and went to heaven.
Tulip explosion. Daffodils. Foxglove. Poppies. Hyacinth.
These things just don't exist in the desert! And they are all my favorites. It wasn't until I walked into the garden that I realized I was in such a floral withdrawal. I'm sure the addition of peonies and hydrangeas would have sent me right over the edge. I miss my flowers.
And the smell. Ohhh, the smell! I have never experienced such a fragrant wonderland. I just kept sniffing and sniffing and sniffing trying to take it all in. Soon, we figured out their little secret. There are air vents around the flower beds that gently blow air -- and the sweet smell of spring -- straight up into your nose.
It was wonderful. And magical. And just about the best thing to happen to me this year. (aside from Kauai)
I'll let the pictures do the talking from here.
They change the set-up at the botanical garden several times a year - the Holidays, Chinese New Year, spring, summer, and fall. I definitely want to go back and see them all.
Thanks mom, for coming to visit!
