Pioneer Day is today! But we celebrated on saturday with a big celebration put on by 3 stakes in our area. There was a parade, games, snow cones, cotton candy, . . . . just lots of free fun for the whole family.
Now it's July in Vegas, so it's hot. And even though the parade started at 9am it is still hot. So from previous experience (we attended this event last year), I was able to mentally prepare myself for a morning of sitting in a puddle of my own sweat. Because it's just gonna happen.
Payton and Anna got to ride on our ward's Primary float. I have some video footage below -- you can't see them all that well, but they are sitting on the second row in the shade and Anna is wearing a pioneer bonnet.
Most of the floats have a "water" theme -- squirt guns, buckets of water, you name it. These entries receive a warm reception because everyone is so stinkin' hot. Squirt me please! If you're sitting on the street curb you are guaranted to get soaked.
After the parade we wandered through the booths and played games like "find a marble with your toes"
and "feed crickets to the seagulls"
and we drank homemade rootbeer and ate rolls with honey butter
as well as snow cones, cotton candy, ice cream sandwiches, . . . .
Conner was stoked when he learned that he could participate in the dunk tank by being dunked. (See the video below). It's pretty funny when the line to get dunked is longer than the line to throw the ball! Payton was also stoked at the opportunity to dunk his brother!
Anna got her face painted
And exactly 17 minutes later she had had it with the heat and collapsed to the ground panting, "I'm having a heart attack!"
At least she wasn't blind.
