That's me and Mindy. We're almost like twins, right? Blue rocks.
I had the most wonderful day with her this weekend! She is down to earth, easy-going, and just comfortable to be with. (Go HERE to learn how this shopping day came to be.)
It was such a cool experience! I mean, how often do you get the opportunity to hang with one of your favorite musicians? Not often.
We met at 11am at Treasures Antique Mall in Springville. She brought along her 9 year old son (she is the mother of 3 boys). He was in need of some mom-time and on the hunt for old license plates for his bedroom wall. He was so good and perfectly behaved ( . . . as I try to imagine my 10 year old on a shopping day . . . )
The day continued as we went from shop to shop to boutique all day long.
And I'm pretty sure that I had a smile on my face all. day. long.
Like, really. Walking up and down the store aisles, driving from store to store . . . I could just feel myself, and my face, glowingly happy and cheerful.
What a great weekend!
Mindy took me to lunch at a place called Guru's. It's off of University Ave in Provo, and we both had the Taos Tortilla salad with chicken. Yum.
We had a good conversation over lunch about middle school, travel, her music, the happenings at Velour, why she needs to play a show in my area, and I recounted our previous meetings over the last few years while trying not to sound like a crazed groupie.
And then . . . . she asked me if I'd like to see her studio. Would I?!
Of course!
We entered the old white building next door and climbed the creaky wooden stairs to a hallway of rooms & offices.
She unlocked the door and it was just perfect . . . classic Mindy style. Vintage, fun, quirky, meaningful, reflective. She uses this space to work on songwriting, creative ideas, brainstorming, etc. A quiet little place away from home.
This piano was in one of her music videos
Then she suggested that we should take a picture on the couch. But we needed to do something fun . . . like jumping!
So I took off my shoes (so I wouldn't roll an ankle) and held my bladder tight (jumping is risky) and went for it while her son snapped photos. I bet he's pretty used to his mom doing this kind of stuff.
Mindy looks way more graceful than I do. She just always looks cute.
After a few stores we stopped by Mindy's house so she could drop off her son. She also made sure to point out CJane's house as we drove through the neighborhood. A little Provo celebrity mecca. AND how weird when I realized that Scott & I had our first kiss and later got engaged about 2 blocks away from her house! I'm sure she wasn't living there in 1998, but anyways.
We continued on to 2 more stores . . . amid the rain/thunder/lightning. Pretty crazy. We went to some pretty amazing shops -- I know where I will be the next time we come through Provo. I picked up some great treasures and even some clothes. She definitely has great taste and I loved every place that she took me. (I'll have another post this week that details everywhere we went - stay tuned.)

I'll continue to say it - this day was just wonderful. Definitely a thriving kind of day.
And for the last 2 days I've been listening to her new album on my computer and in the car. (Everyone who contributed to her PledgeMusic campaign received a digital download of the album on monday). In a word this new album is . . . magical. I just love her imagination, her playful lyrics, and soothing voice. Love!
Thanks Mindy for a fantastic day, for taking time away from your family, and just being you and sharing your dreams and talents with us!
