New Sunday clothes for the kids and pictures outside are Easter traditions for us.
It can also be a challenge, as I’m sure most moms can attest. In our case – eyes that are hurt by the sun (in the shade), awkward pre-teen & teen smiles, some grumpiness. But we do it. With just an inch of my sanity remaining at the end.
Then we all pile in the car and drive to church, letting the squabbles of the morning roll away as we slide onto the cushioned pews and listen to words and music that remind us of our Savior and what this day (this life) is all about.
When we returned 3 hours later we walked in to find the turkey done, potatoes cooked, and Scott standing by the stove whisking the gravy. Ahhh. (He stayed home from church because he was recovering from being SICK all day Saturday). Add in some asparagus, orange Jell-O, and rolls I made in the morning and it was a delicious Easter feast.
In case you were wondering -- that Jasmine smells ah-mazing!
Both Conner and Payton claimed a turkey leg at dinner. Payton ate what he could, then wrapped the rest in plastic wrap and brought it to school for lunch the next day. I can just imagine the scene of this little boy sitting in the school cafeteria, whipping out a turkey leg from his lunch bag! He said that a lot of the kids thought he was funny. Which, for Payton, is always the goal.
Here's a bit from the Bunny Day festivities on Saturday.
Anna came into our room at 6:30am, wanting to know if she could go find her basket. I was soooo tired. I moaned, "yes" and almost rolled over and went back to sleep. Then I thought for a split moment: our years are numbered with these kinds of magical experiences - get up. I'm glad I did.
Scott was out for the count alllll day Saturday (after Anna, Conner, and I getting it earlier in the week). So the kids and I watched movies, puttered around the house, and finally I took them to the park and Purple Penguin for a snow cone. Not exactly the way I envisioned spending the last real day of Spring Break, but it worked. In reality, I really could have used another week of Spring Break! But with just 6 1/2 weeks of school remaining I know our big break will be here soon enough.
