Made our way to the cabin and I am so happy to be here. Ready to enjoy the quiet, the beautiful scenery, the absence of cell service, and exploring the woods.
We bought a homemade blackberry pie from a cute apple store on the highway and ate it after dinner with vanilla ice cream.
We took a short walk after dinner and I have to point out several things about this photo:
1 - these beautiful sweet peas grow wild on the side of the road!
2 - Anna is nervous about the ONE bee that she THINKS she saw near the flowers. Which means no smile and I am the bee buffer.
3 - I didn't realize how HUGE her new, cheap get-her-through-the-summer tennis shoes look on her feet!
4- This photo started out with Conner providing bunny ears to Anna and I.
5- Payton expertly pulled off the Sasquatch photobombing pose! Nailed it!

Roadtrip 2015 // day 1
The boys were home from scout camp less than 48 hours when I packed the kids up and headed out on our summer roadtrip! It's going to be a busy summer - going here and there and not leaving too many normal/ lazy weeks at home. I'm guessing that this is a product of our kids growing up and I am planning on our summers looking like this from here on out.
But first the road trip. It has felt like a busy couple weeks leading up the road trip. Much of my life feels like I'm flying by the seat of my pants from one event to the next and this was no exception! Not a whole lot of pre-planning happened. (My friend tells me this is just a phase of life and - missing my former über planner self - I am counting on her to be right!). But we got ourselves, our clothes, toothbrushes, and a big tub of red vines packed in the car and we are good to go.
Day 1 - I drove the 475 miles to my parent's home in California. The kids are awesome in the car. It went smoothly, although I wasn't as well rested as I like to be when I'm hitting the open road as the sole driver. Which meant a couple extra potty / rest stop breaks but that is ok! We listened to the Into The Woods soundtrack, a talk by Brad Wilcox, and a lot of Imagine Dragons. The boys played their Nintendo DS games and Anna working on stitching projects.
Really, traveling with this crew is a breeze!

thankful for my man
Scott just returned yesterday from 7 days at scout camp with Payton & Conner and 13 more boys in his troop. He is the Scoutmaster. (And sometimes we think he must be the eternal Scoutmaster as he's been doing Scout Camp for over 10 years!)
They pulled in yesterday afternoon and I can't tell you just how GOOD they looked. Sun tan, relaxed, bearded (just Scott), and manly. I don't know what it is but the boys appeared to have grown leaps in the past week - more tough, rugged, confident.
I loved seeing that. And I loved seeing them with their dad, knowing the effort, thought, and planning that he puts into these events. They don't just happen. What I love most is his forethought and vision to teach, lead, and inspire these boys (our boys and all the boys in the troop) to be men.
I'm so thankful for him.
