For a long time Scott and I have talked about having an "away" Christmas once the kids got a little bit older. Ever since Payton was a baby we have spent all of our Christmas' at home. Last year we spent New Years at the cabin and we had SUCH a great time. It was cozy, relaxing, and full of all kinds of warm fuzzy family togetherness. Right then and there we decided that Christmas 2017 was going to happen at the cabin! So we hopped on to the Cabin google calendar and reserved the dates. We have been looking forward to this for a whole year!
With mom passing away in September, the cabin Christmas became even more meaningful because this would be a wonderful opportunity to spend this special holiday, surrounded by HER. Every item in that cabin, every piece of artwork, every knick knack, every touch, every sight . . . they all come together to feel like mom.
As soon as we arrived at the cabin we dug out the tubs of Christmas decorations and went to work to make it as festive & cheery as mom always did! Anna decorated the tree. Most of the ornaments are handmade creations from mine and my brothers' childhoods.
Somehow an ornament with Conner's picture was also in the box of nostalgia. Probably something to do with being the 1st grandchild. :) Both of my ornaments were made in Primary, with photos that were taken outside the church building on Sunday. And both of those dresses . . . . made by mom. We added the ornament on the top right -- a Happy Day message in the snow outside the cabin last winter.
Anna and I were both so excited to make a popcorn string for the tree. Every cabin Christmas tree needs a popcorn string, don't you think?
The bunkie definitely needed to be dressed for Christmas so we got to work on that. Red bows, a wreath for the door, and we clipped pine tree branches to create a swag to place above the antlers.
I think he looks very happy.
I put together the table centerpiece mirroring exactly what my mom had done last year. The most adorable glittery houses, a sheet of wood grain wallpaper as the runner, bristle brush trees, and candles. She has such great style and an eye for gathering wonderful items - it makes decorating so easy.
Inside, we hung our very large stockings on the stair banister. Ahh, this scene is so inviting. I just want to sit back, enjoy the roaring fire, and snack on some caramels and cookies.
This. This is what we've been imagining and looking forward to all year.
Let the magic begin.
