This is year number 13 of my one little word project. Yay! Each year I choose a word to focus on for 12 months. It sets a theme for my intentions. It sits on my heart and becomes a little guidepost in my process of becoming.
As it often happens, my word came to me late last fall. I was out on a morning walk -- a typical bright, clear day here in the desert. I was thinking about the things I’d seen and experienced in 2017 -- the hard, the heavy. My heart was broken, yet full. I thought about how I could take this brokenness and do something with it. I do not believe the cliché that everything happens for a reason. But I do believe that when hard things happen to us we have a choice -- let them bring us down, OR search them for the ways they can teach & mold us, encourage growth, and allow us to bless others.
But how would that be possible in this situation? It was hard for me to see very far ahead.
All of this tossed in my mind when ever so gently a word rested on my mind . . . .
Light
My one little word for 2018. And here’s why . . .
So many people described my mom as light. I want to be more like her.
I want to feel lighter in heart and spirit.
Jesus Christ is the light of the world – I want to know Him better so that I can feel His light and peace more closely in my life.
I hope to serve, lift, and connect with others in a way that I, myself, can be a light.
I love looking back over my list of words. Light is going to make a perfect addition.
This quote is a recent favorite. I'm collecting more "Light" quotes and inspiration over on Pinterest.

I have signed up for Ali Edwards' One Little Word Workshop this year. I'm excited to follow her monthly assignments and prompts to help me keep this word at the forefront of my mind and record how it plays a part in my life.
I also ordered her One Little Word album kit because I need some help getting back into a creative place. I love everything in it! Epoxy stickers, cork, vellum, gold foil, rubber . . . Can't wait to start playing! I'll post my January layout when it is all finished.
